Starting a new business…. when you are – let’s say slightly older!

Welcome to Roundpeg and thank you for taking the time to read my very first blog, very daunting especially when I’ve decided to blog about my decision to start a business in potentially worrying times and at the age of 54!

I have always worked, luckily never being without a job, and until August 2019 had worked for the same company for 15 years, after unluckily finding myself without a job and looking at all the available portals, I thought well this is it, my time is now, when else will I have the opportunity to work for myself? That step is relatively easy, but other decisions are difficult, how do I support myself? What shall I do? How will I fund it? The list is endless…..

My 2 main areas of expertise are the garden building industry and catering, catering I decided was for the younger me – that left the shed world!

One extremely hard decision was what to call the company? I knew I wanted to corner a niche part in the market, that of difficult buildings, bespoke, tailor-made, custom-made…therefore I thought I wanted to try to put a round peg into a square hole (garden), eureka – that was going to be the company name….Next I had to find my business partner… I needed an expert in making these buildings and fitting them!!
