Dream Shelter for Violet Way Academy’s Forest School
At Violet Way Academy, outdoor learning is very important. Their Forest School offers children the chance to connect with nature, learn new skills and enjoy the great outdoors. But there was one problem – the unpredictability of the British weather! Rain, wind or very chilly days meant outdoor learning wasn’t always possible, and that’s why they needed a shelter, and we were more than happy to help!
When the academy reached out to us, they had a clear vision: a sturdy, all weather shelter with sides, windows and benches. They wanted something special, a space where children could stay dry and look at the forest and continue their outdoor learning no matter what the weather had in store! We designed a high-quality shelter using tanalised timber, durable perspex windows and long-lasting EPDM rubber roof to keep everything protected.
A project like this needs funding, and the school’s PTA had worked hard to raise money. A huge boost came from Tesco’s blue token scheme, which raised £2,000, plus a lucky gold token secured them an amazing £5,000. Thanks to their efforts and the community’s support, their dream shelter became a reality!
At the grand opening the school’s caretaker said:
“Your design and build was absolutely perfect for the needs of the Forest School and will be a major asset for many children going forward.”
It was fantastic to see the children exploring their new space and we are delighted to know it will be enjoyed for years to come.
